| Successful television and radio media tours --whether part of a consumer outreach or any other type of communications campaign-- depend on production skill, bookings and follow-up. Production skill Satellite media tours offer the opportunity to put your message directly to millions of viewers. We produce up to ten tours every month. Some are sponsored by one company and others are cooperatives that feature a variety of products fitting one particular holiday or one consumer theme such as a greening up the home. A DWJ producer and director are on site at every tour no matter what the location, and DWJ media specialists are in constant contact with each station's scheduler and production team. Skilled professionals, rehearsals, equipment tests and back-up equipment all help to insure that the tour goes smoothly and successfully. Bookings Successful bookings start with a creative, newsy pitch. But the real key is getting that pitch out there. We generally recommend a long interview window-at least four hours-to reach all time zones and both the morning news shows and some of the morning magazine-style shows. And we can't overemphasize the advantage of having a long lead time for booking SMTs that aren't breaking news. TV producers get a lot of SMT requests, and once they fill their slots, it may not matter how good the pitch is. So as soon as our clients sign off on our pitch, we get right to work by phone, fax and email. DWJ Television also purchases time on certain programs and in certain markets to help reach viewership goals. These may include sponsored segments played during commercial breaks in newscasts, DirecTV, Dish News, ION Newswatch and several syndicated news programs reaching 80 to 162 markets. Follow-up When satellite interviews are taped by a station rather than aired live, DWJ's placement staff follows up to find out when the segment will air. As part of the follow-up package, DWJ also produces podcasts which are uploaded to DWJ's moreaboutthat.info, YouTube and other popular Internet video sites. While you won't get the mass audience figures that you get from broadcast, you will reach people who are specifically searching for information on your topic, and the ability to reach that "qualified audience" shouldn't be underestimated. If the budget allows, we like to offer news producers B-roll, soundbites and a TV news release produced from the SMT. Podcasts also increase the impact of your story. |
